Association of Dental Implantology urges dental technicians to get more involved
By Larry Browne, Technician Representative, ADI Committee
I am constantly disappointed by the low number of technicians who are “bothering” to turn out and attend dental meetings. Particularly when they offer such an opportunity to gather information and make contact with other technicians and clinicians with similar interests.
The ADI is an organisation which welcomes membership from all those professionals involved in Implant dentistry. This includes Technicians.
Registration will bring with it many responsibilities in which, hitherto, only some people in technical dentistry got involved. CPD is a reality and any opportunity to increase our knowledge and understanding of the things we are expected to be expert in, should be grasped.
Being a member of the ADI immediately opens the way to area study club meetings with guest speakers and a chance to socialise with clinical colleagues. It also provides a regular copy of a summary of implant research from around the world in a convenient and readable format, and all bi-monthly issues included in the annual membership fee. Clinical membership is over 1500 and technical membership is well under one hundred, Surely we can do better than that?
The ADI congress is just around the corner. The first weekend in May brings to Birmingham’s ICC some of the world’s very best speakers on implant dentistry. There is always much to learn and great tips to pick up from these experts. The Programme offers the full measure of information on Surgery, Restoration and Technology with two world class Technician speakers. All spread over three days, the balance of the programme and the social events promise a real chance to interact with other technicians and the clinicians with the same interests. With several hundred clinical members attending this is a real opportunity to get some questions answered, make friends and maybe make a new business contact. This will be the largest gathering of dental professionals with a shared interest anywhere in the U.K.
The Corporate sponsors and some 70 exhibitors promise a real mix of new products and techniques and will undoubtedly include much that will be shown for the first time at the IDS only weeks before. There will be much to see on the new CAD CAM breakthroughs and several innovations on implant design and construction.
Keep up to date and get involved in your own future. It’s easy and it’s open to all working technicians. So pick up the phone (020 8487 5555) or go online (www.adi.org.uk). Remember your tomorrow starts today, come on and get involved.
