DLA takes to the Highlands
On the 31st March, the DLA Scottish Committee met to discuss the latest challenges to Dental Laboratories; also in attendance was Joe McIntyre to provide the group with an update on the Dental Technician VT Scheme and the Bursary for trainees.
In the Chair for the first time was Bob Carse from R A Carse Dental Laboratory, Dundee, a member of the Scottish Committee and long time DLA member.
Joe McIntyre informed the meeting that at the current time only one potential trainer had come forward in Scotland to work within the VT Scheme. The DLA offered to promote this to all of the Scottish membership prior to the deadline in order to gain further support. In addition Joe announced that there were now 5 inspectors appointed to visit Scottish dental laboratories to check they meet the criteria for the VT Scheme.
The meeting was also informed that the Scottish Bursary had now been allocated and it would be available in the immediate term after Easter.
Other outcomes from the meeting included a campaign similar to that in England and Wales regarding the new dental contract. The committee also agreed to fund a study into the production process in a dental laboratory to aid labs when setting their price.
Under the guidance of Bob Carse, the Scottish Committee is looking for new members; if you would like to take part please contact Richard Daniels at the DLA office for more information – or call your local Scottish DLA Council Member.
